Working with authors on their books has been my greatest professional pleasure. For more than three decades as an editor in trade book publishing, I have enjoyed being part of the creative process, helping to develop and shape a work from its inception through its final publication.
My experience embraces nearly every genre of book-length work. As a young editor at Avon, I published an Edgar-nominated mysteries series. As a senior editor at Harlequin Books, I launched a new trade imprint of contemporary and historical women’s romances. As a book packager, I created and edited a dozen YA series. As Editor-in-Chief at Kensington Publishing Corp., I published New York Times bestselling celebrity memoirs, crime fiction and nonfiction, suspense thrillers and women’s fiction, narrative nonfiction and humor; supervised the founding of Dafina, one of the first African-American women’s fiction imprints, and Twin Streams, an alternative medicine imprint. At Penguin, I acquired and edited a wide variety of general interest and business popular reference titles.
As an independent editor, I bring my editorial expertise to projects by individual authors, both unpublished and published. While I work with many experienced authors, I specialize in helping develop and shape the works of first time writers. Many have gone on to find publishers or to have great success in the vibrant self-publishing arena.
My services include: detailed manuscript critiques; developmental editing, line editing, and revision of book-length manuscripts and proposals for submission.
